CHAPTER X

Tony Adams drove one of his vehicles to Thomas Harding’s instead of taking a taxi again. He wasn’t afraid of anyone recognizing the car, as it was one that he hadn’t used it in a long time. It was also registered in his wife’s name. He got out of the automobile and entered the house, not even bothering to knock, only to be greeted in ways he couldn’t have expected.

The moment Tony Adams came through the door of Thomas Harding’s home, the doctor grabbed him by the collar and shook him, as he asked, “Where did you move her to, you son of a bitch?”

“What are you talking about and who?” Tony Adams replied, as he broke free from Thomas Harding’s hold on him and had to duck a punch. He had a feeling that if that fist could have connected, it would have knocked him cold. He had no idea what had set the doctor off but, whatever it was, he had nothing to do with it and let him know it, although he doubted if the man was listening.

“Our patient, that’s who. What did you do with her?” Thomas Harding spoke in an aggressive manner as he prepared to attack Tony Adams again.

Tony Adams didn’t believe Tyndal was gone. When? Even more to the point, how? When he had left earlier, she had been in a coma, barely clinging to life. He immediately ran up the stairs to her, and when he noticed the empty bed, he cursed. The place was a mess. There was blood and water all over the floor from the transfusion and intravenous bags, and she was nowhere to be seen. Even her backpack was missing. He turned to face the doctor who had followed him into the room, and this time it was Tony who grabbed the other man by the lapels of his coat to draw him closer.

“You better not have hidden her with the intention of framing me for her murder or something, because if you did, it won’t work. I was at the studio most of the night with the police, trying to figure out what happened there,” Tony Adams informed Thomas.

“Likely excuse,” Thomas countered. He didn’t believe what Tony was saying for a moment. If something had gone wrong at the studio, he wouldn’t have put it past the man to create an accident to cover for what had happened here.

Tony Adams checked his watch, walked up to the television and turned it on to catch the local news. They were highlighting the destruction of his studio. He studied Thomas as that man listened to what had happened as well as the timing. He could tell when he accepted the fact that he couldn’t have been there. He then looked at the empty bed and asked. “Well, if you didn’t take her and I didn’t, then where did she go?”

“She wasn’t in any shape to go anywhere,” Thomas Harding stated. “She was dying.”

“You are sure of this?” Tony Adams asked.
